Professional Remodeler’s January 2008 edition featured Pete Olson’s project of remodeling and restoring a vacation cottage in Park City, Utah. The home had to be completely craned off of the lot, lifted into the air and moved further up on the lot to allow for an addition and new foundation.
Olson concentrated on securing the old house for its move. The cottage had thin walls, no insulation and, to everyone’s surprise, no framing. The siding was nailed to 1 by 12 vertical strips. The place “was built like a shipping crate.”
As for the completed project, “Everything seems great,” Owner, Smith says. He’s not the only one who thinks so. Park City did too: The house won the 2007 Park City Historic Home Preservation Award.
