I was raised in a construction family and studied Civil Engineering in college. When I first started out in this business, I worked for prominent local contractors preforming framing, sidings and finish carpentry in the Bay Area of California and Park City, honing my skills as a carpenter. In Park City, I worked on projects in Deer Valley, Bald Eagle, Deer Crest, and The Colony, where I meet several top-quality tradesmen. Then, in 1997, I decided to get my general contractors license and start PJ Builders. When I am not building your dream home I enjoy doing anything with water, snow skiing, river rafting and surfing especially. Water has a calming, peaceful effect on people. I enjoy living and working in Park City the lifestyle and community here is hard to beat. I feel so fortunate to be able to live, work and play in such a beautiful place, surrounded by nature.
When Jimmy McMullen moved to Park City in 1976, there was plenty of work during the winters in the restaurants, but very little during the summer. So, he started doing odd jobs and worked his way into construction with contractors. He truly mastered his trade during the next three decades with Robbie Sletta Construction.
He joined PJ Builders in 2015. PJ Builders’ Founder Pete Olson says of him, “He’s a master carpenter with over 33 years of experience and is best of the best.” Jimmy does finish carpentry and construction management, and makes sure everything works flawlessly in each home. “New houses have so much technology now,” McMullen says. “It’s essential to ensure it all functions properly. I coordinate with the subs and solve issues to ensure everything looks beautiful and is of the highest quality.”
Jimmy also manages to find the time to work as a private chef and owns his own catering company, Classic Cuisine.
Gerry was born and raised in Livonia Michigan. After being laid off from Ford Motor Company as a plant scheduler he traveled around the West in his VW bug. During a ski vacation to Park City in 1981, he declared to his buddies, “I’ll be living here in two weeks.” True to his word, he returned home, sold his house and all his belongings, and moved to Park City. Gerry has held many jobs in town, such as a Hobart Technician at the Eating Establishment, ski patroller at Park City Ski Area, and driving a snow cat at Park West (now part of Park City Mountain and Deer Valley Resort until he began working full time as a carpenter in 1985. That same year, he married Shauna with whom he has two kids – Jeff, a musician and Lea, a mechanical engineer.
Gerry is a true craftsman who became interested in working in the building industry because he liked working with his hands and creating things since his childhood. He is a well-rounded carpenter and a master of several disciplines such as framing, job management, and finish. He has worked with PJ Builders since 2003. One of the Gerry’s mantras is, “The road to success is uphill, start walking!” Gerry lives up to this every day, enjoys inspiring the people around him, and loves to have fun. Gerry still makes some great turns on water and snow skis. He loves the outdoors, music and spending time with family and friends.
A Milwaukee native, Douglas hitched a ride with a friend who was driving to Park City and never moved back. A 25-year veteran of the building industry, he joined PJ Builders as a carpenter in 2011. His lifelong dream of someday building his own home initially got him interested in his craft. And now he is actually building his dream house in Hawaii when not hard at work on PJ Builders’ Park City projects.
Douglas’ mom raised both him and his brother on her own, making her his greatest inspiration. He measures success by ending each day with all 10 fingers intact.
Drawn to the building industry in 2016 with a desire to learn carpentry fundamentals, Sam has stuck with it because he enjoys the fact that each day is a lesson that teaches him something new. He also loves being outside and braving the elements and having the opportunity to view and appreciate the accomplishments and progress at the end of every day.
Cycling and hiking are Sam’s other passions because they allow him to reconnect with himself. He also spends time with his nephews, whose father has been a great inspiration for his hard work and life lessons shared.
PJ Builders’ essential Office Manager since 2013 when she moved to Park City, Dianne is from Austin, Texas. It was her husband’s job that brought them to Park City, which she blissfully refers to as “paradise” for its laid back, outdoorsy culture.
Dianne enjoys her role as the number cruncher at PJ Builders and keeps the business organized and running smoothly. Her definition of success is to achieve her goals at “the end of the path.”
When not running the office, Dianne’s pursuits include alpine skiing, hiking, biking, supporting her three children in their endeavors, and most of all, adventures with Big Al.
Pamela Alford brings many decades of event and film production savvy to her role as marketing director at PJ Builders.
She uses her strong sense of timing to seize opportunities to elevate the brand’s awareness and maintains zeal for both design and practicality.
In addition to her ability to manage a strong team of people and her ability to concisely communicate, she has a salty sense of humor that keeps her co-workers and family full of laughter. She enjoys traveling, working in the yard, and giving back to the Park City community.
Born and raised in Massachusetts as the son of a state building inspector, the ability to construct in a level and sturdy manner runs in Averill Homes’ blood. After serving stateside for eight years with the United States Naval Construction Battalions, better known as the Seabees, he followed his new bride to the Beehive State to be closer to her family in Heber City.
Averill first learned of PJ Builders from a local catalogue he picked up during his first week in Utah. PJ seemed to complement his desire to be a part of a team known for exceptional quality. Although the company was not openly hiring, he found its small Park City office and slipped his resume under the door. He was subsequently hired and ,has been part of the team since 2017. Averill’s “can do” attitude can by summarized by his motto developed during his time as a Seabee: “With willing hearts and skillful hands, the difficult we do at once, the impossible takes a bit longer.”
When not working with the PJ Builders team on its latest and greatest projects, he can be found hiking in the Uintas, skiing McConkey’s at Park City Mountain, cooking a new creation in the kitchen, or hanging curtains for his mother-in-law.
Moving to the area from his home state of Vermont in 2005, Riley has lived and matured in Park City over the last 14 years. Like so many ski bums before him, this Green Mountain kid has managed to turn a ski season into a permanent home away from home. Driven by adventure and the outdoors, Riley enjoys a variety of activities involving fresh air, friends and adrenaline. When not working and learning with the PJ Builders team, he will be found mountain biking, skiing powder, traveling, camping and surfing all with his trusty companion dog, Floyd. Riley’s favorite outdoor activity is freeride mountain biking throughout Utah and in the famous Whistler Bike Park, to which he makes the Canadian migration each fall for pure loam freedom. Riley looks forward to making a lasting impression within the PJ Builders family through a positive attitude, a budding passion for the industry and high-end customer service, all while creating artistic homes of quality and design.

He will work for meat treats but will take long afternoon naps as the rest of the crew continues to work.
